In “Self Portrait with the Promise of a Blue Sky” the artist captures a glimpse into his own psyche at the moment of its creation. In a new city halfway across the world from his previous home, a brushstroke is being laid down for the first time. It is the beginning of a new life chapter full of change and anticipation for the things to come. The expression is focused, if not a little uneasy, yet the shiny patina of the palette reveals the blue of the skylight above and the endless possibility that can come with it.
